According to a report by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), an academic institution that researches public health and infectious diseases, over the 14 months from April 2023 to June 2024, 61,202 people died in Khartoum state due to direct and indirect causes of the conflict, of whom more than 26,000 are estimated to have died due to violence. The mortality rate has increased by 50% compared to before the conflict. The number is expected to rise further as the toll in areas outside Khartoum state becomes clearer. Even Khartoum state alone already far exceeds previous nationwide estimates.

Meanwhile, it was found that armored personnel carriers equipped with a French-designed and -manufactured reactive defense system were produced in the United Arab Emirates and have been used across Sudan. The European Union has had measures in place since 1994 prohibiting sending weapons to Sudan, and this may constitute a violation of the embargo. Also, on November 18 a vote was held at the UN Security Council on a draft resolution calling for the protection of civilians and a cessation of hostilities by the parties to the conflict, but it was rejected due to Russia’s veto.
