In February 2025, an app called “Kamko” designed to support the use of digital tools was released in Nepal. This app, published by Nepali journalist Roshan Shrestha, helps people verify information on the internet. For example, when applying for the visa required to travel to another country, people can obtain information and application portals from official government or embassy websites online. However, some people are unaware of these sites or, because they do not know about them, fall victim to scams on fake sites. Kamko’s role is to guide such people to links to official sites. The app itself does not collect personal information, which also makes it highly secure.

As the background to the creation of this app, many people in Nepal have been losing time and money due to misinformation and disinformation online. In Nepal, while labor migration abroad is one of the important sources of household income, people are sometimes deceived by fake visas or job offers, and in more severe cases fall victim to human trafficking. In fact, in May 2025, visa-related illegal activities that had been carried out systematically by senior officials within government agencies at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, were exposed. They had been illegally collecting money through travel agencies from people attempting to travel abroad on tourist visas.

Amid the spread of such problems, Kamko plays an important role in helping users build the literacy needed to avoid being caught up in scams and incidents. Thanks to its simplicity and high usefulness, it has been steadily spreading and winning trust among the public.
