GNV News – August 14, 2024
The International Labour Organization (ILO) announced that in 2023 the global youth unemployment rate hit its lowest level in 15 years. This trend is expected to continue in 2024 and 2025. However, the decline in unemployment varies by region, and youth unemployment rates in East Asia, South Asia and the Pacific, and the Arab States remain above pre-COVID-19 levels.
While youth unemployment has decreased, there remains the concern that globally 20% of young people are NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). Furthermore, data show that among those who are NEET, 28% are young women and 13% are young men, suggesting that securing stable employment is particularly difficult for young women.
